About Us

Amber Education Services Ltd was founded on the belief that helping individuals to take charge of their economic and social lives through being proactive in their career paths, be it employment, self employment or some other attachment to the community. Amber’s role is to assist each individual in an environment of compassionate professionalism, finding a match between the person’s re-employment needs and the policy of a particular program.

OUR HISTORY

Co-owned by Wade and Karen Simmons, Amber Education Services Ltd opened in 1994 and was successful in securing its first contract. Drawing from their banking careers, we began with an original vision of offering business plan instruction and entrepreneurship development. From 1997 – 2002 we co-managed an employment resource centre and added tourism programming to our contract portfolio. All of our initiatives have been focused on workforce development and driven by effectiveness and financial accountability.

Over the years, Amber Education has taken an active role by offering time and commitment to numerous enterprises including Chambers of Commerce, Junior Achievement of British Columbia, Economic Development agencies and agencies for persons living with disabilities.

In 2002, we were successful in obtaining the Community Co-ordination skill development agreement for Central Vancouver Island. We called it the Training Support Program. In 2009 the service was expanded to include the Victoria Capital Regional District and continued until the conclusion of that contract in the spring of 2012. In that time and with an expert group of almost 25 staff, we worked with more than 4000 applicants while maintaining an 85-90% approval percentage and 75- 80% employment outcome for those that complete their training contracts.

In April of 2012, the workforce development industry model changed and Amber Education was pleased to adapt to the new format. We now hold subcontracts with WorkBC Employment Service Centres and serve much of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, Burnaby and Chilliwack. Our role is to assess applications for eligible individuals seeking to access training funds. Our staff are available through each service centre and look forward to assisting in this process.

In May of 2013, Amber returned to its beginnings and added the Self Employment Program delivery in the Cowichan Region to our services. In this program, eligible individuals submit business concepts and if accepted, are supported and coached through the business planning and launch phases of this program.
